Interstate Vehicle Approval Planning for Victorian Body Builders
CVC helps Victorian manufacturers and body builders determine what approval pathway may be required when a vehicle built or modified in Victoria will be sold or registered in New South Wales or Queensland. The answer depends on the vehicle, when the modification is carried out, whether it is a new vehicle or an in-service modification, and which state or national approval framework applies.
Why interstate supply needs to be considered early
A vehicle that is acceptable for a Victorian approval pathway is not automatically covered for every interstate registration scenario. For manufacturers and body builders supplying vehicles outside Victoria, the approval strategy should be considered before the vehicle is completed so the required evidence, inspections and documentation can be built into the job.
Which approval pathway applies?

If the completed vehicle is being supplied as a new road vehicle, the national Road Vehicle Standards framework may apply, including Vehicle Type Approval, Second Stage Manufacture and Register of Approved Vehicles requirements. CVC supports these projects through ROVER, VTA and SSM consulting.
Modified vehicles supplied into NSW or Queensland
For vehicles that require state-based modification approval, CVC can review the proposed build and advise the Victorian client on whether NSW VSCCS or Queensland modification approval requirements are likely to apply. The objective is to identify the required pathway before the vehicle leaves Victoria rather than discovering an interstate approval issue at registration.
