Overview

The TLIF0005 unit of competency provides learners with the skills and knowledge to manage fatigue and work safely within the Transport and Logistics industry. It includes applying fatigue risk management strategies, identifying and acting on signs of fatigue, operating within a fatigue risk management system, planning and navigating trips, updating and maintaining records, complying with work and rest limits and implementing appropriate strategies to minimise fatigue during work activities.

This course has no prerequisites and the target learners are drivers, schedulers, and supervisors or managers of drivers or schedulers wishing to operate under NHVR Fatigue Management Accreditation*. The training includes 6 short modules and 2 assessment activities, (a combination of online and practical tasks).
Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify and manage fatigue risk in the road transport sector
  • Operate within a road transport fatigue risk management system
  • Plan and navigate a heavy vehicle trip
  • Comply with work and rest hours, and
  • Update and maintain records

*Being awarded this unit of competency is a necessary requirement to operate under National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) Fatigue Management Accreditation but is only one of the criteria. Prospective applicants should check with the NHVR before undertaking training and/or assessment.

Who Should Complete This Course

If you drive a heavy vehicle under your own or your operator’s Basic or Advanced Fatigue Management Accreditation, you will need to have a statement of attainment for the TLIF0005 Apply a fatigue risk management system unit of competency. Urban E-Learning have been approved by ASQA and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to deliver the necessary fatigue management units of competency.

Assessment Outline

After completing the training modules, there are two assessment tasks to complete, including a:

  • Practical Assessment: you will submit example work diaries and driving plans to demonstrate your ability to use specific tools in the workplace. You can either use the templates provided or equivalent documents used in your workplace

The TLIF0006 unit of competency provides learners with the skills and knowledge to administer a fatigue risk management system within the Transport and Logistics industry. It includes identifying and managing risks associated with fatigue during heavy vehicle driving, operating within a fatigue risk management system, planning trips and updating records, and developing and implementing policies, procedures and strategies to minimise fatigue in the workplace.

This course has no prerequisites and the target learners are schedulers, and supervisors or managers of drivers or schedulers wishing to operate under NHVR Fatigue Management Accreditation*. The training includes 5 short modules and 2 assessment activities, (a combination of online and practical tasks).
Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Manage heavy vehicle driver fatigue strategies
  • Operate within a road transport fatigue risk management system
  • Schedule work and rest hours in compliance with a road transport fatigue risk management system
  • Plan and navigate a heavy vehicle trip, and
  • Update and maintain records

This course has no prerequisites and the target learners are drivers, schedulers, and supervisors or managers of drivers or schedulers. The training includes 7 short modules and 4 assessment activities, (a combination of online and practical tasks).
Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Explain the importance of fatigue management;
  • Identify legislation that supports the management of fatigue;
  • Describe the causes, effects and warning signs of fatigue;

It also includes acting appropriately on reports and identified breaches of fatigue management regulations and ensuring operational systems are compliant with fatigue management regulations and policy; planning and organising adequate resources and operational systems; and facilitating the training and assessment of staff on their responsibilities and fatigue management techniques.

This course has no prerequisites and the target learners are transport operator, transport manager or supervisor, scheduler or loading managers. The training includes 7 short modules and 2 assessment activities, (a combination of online and practical tasks).
Upon completion of this training, you will be able to:

  • Identify fatigue management legal requirements and responsibilities

It also includes acting appropriately on reports and identified breaches of fatigue management regulations and ensuring operational systems are compliant with fatigue management regulations and policy; planning and organising adequate resources and operational systems; and facilitating the training and assessment of staff on their responsibilities and fatigue management techniques.

This course has no prerequisites and the target learners are transport operator, transport manager or supervisor, scheduler or loading managers. The training includes 7 short modules and an assessment activity.
